The unfortunate thing is that, after months of playing it safe, we hosted a party for < 10 people at our home just before my roommate started experiencing symptoms. Obviously we feel terrible about this now, and it's hard to say if one of us got Covid before or at the party.
We immediately contacted all of our friends and anyone we came into contact with in the last week, but it struck me that there's no "So now you've got Covid" literature, instruction or recommendations sent from the testing site. All that was sent was a couple of sentences telling us that the test was positive, and there was only a small chance that it was a false positive.
It made me realize that our government truly is handling this terribly, and so much suffering could have been avoided if an adult in the room stood up and created a program to educate people on contacting those that came into contact with you, what to expect, how long to stay in quarantine, etc.
Obviously we googled these answers, but it seems a bit naive that everyone will just find accurate answers via Google, or will even actively seek out education.
Anyway, I don't mean to shift the blame away from our mistake of hosting the party or not requesting that everyone get a Covid-19 test before the party. However, we could learn from governments that actually take this seriously.
> our government truly is handling this terribly,
Nope, it's all on you.
You don't say what Government but I bet whatever it is they're not compelling their citizens to throw parties.
> I don't mean to shift the blame away from our mistake of hosting the party
That's exactly what you're doing and nobody here is going to buy it.
> we could learn from governments that actually take this seriously.
New Zealand took it dead serious. Why didn't you learn from them?
“Went out to a swingers party with 10 people we know to be clean. Turns out Mandy and Joe weren’t being safe and transmitted to us ghonorrea and it’s terrible! I can’t believe the government let this happen!”
Did I get this right? AFAIK the real crime is the children stuck at home in abusive places, deprived of education and or exposed to extreme poverty due to economic collapse.
The thing about being wrong on the internet, is that we won't give you any leeway.
The idea after you have COVID is you don't leave your home. Depending on your country, that might not be reasonable. For instance in New Zealand, for those staying at home - the government either put them into managed facilities by force (for those who disagreed, were detained by police and put into a hotel with a police presence), or delivered parcels of food to positive testing people.
I really don't see that happening or playing out without a lot of outrage in some countries. Australia tried that and you'd think their political climate was similar, but the politicians involved have likely just nuked their careers.
2. Most people are inside way more often and have at least 20 mins in the past few months
What else is there to say?
