The P-N-P silicon sandwich experiments that led to the transistor. (That's on the influential = beneficial side.)
On the influential-but-has-huge-negatives, the nuclear fission chain reaction experiments.

Not sure if it counts as a "scientific experiment," but Roger Bannister's breaking of the four minute mile barrier seems to have been extremely fruitful. Not just for running, but for the concept of achievement in general; i.e. that when someone breaks a barrier, it becomes easier for others to follow.
