How do I file my tax electronically without using a paid service?

This year I read up on tax rules and figured out my tax. However, I am still not sure how do I file them electronically without paying to Intuit or a similar service. Does anyone know if IRS as an API or something that I could use? IRS also discourages paper filing but makes it very hard to figure how to file online.
