How personalized are Google search results? (e.g. Python vs. Snakes)

I just had a conversation with a friend on how Google in a sense is our go-to for many questions and how much personalization plays into what we get as results.

As a quick test I googled for "python" and for me all results on the first two pages are about the programming language so I tweeted to get more data on it but of course I'm in a tech and programming bubble (https://twitter.com/__tosh/status/1357652341168754688?s=20).

Is there any research on how canonical or personalized search results are (and perhaps how it varies by topic?). Or anyone of you working on this and can share some of the lessons learned @ implementation and trade-offs?
