What should a founder know before starting a company in India?

I'm an electrical engineering student in Mumbai and wanted to try starting a company here,I've head numerous rumors from parents and the like about how starting up here is near impossible due to corruption and red tape Is this a real or valid concern? Or do you have any other advice or experience that is specific to starting here?

I apologize for rambling and for the language,I'm not a native speaker

Depends a lot on complexity involved. Starting a vadapav stand is slightly less complex than building the Taj Mahal. Also depends on how driven you are.

Ideally work for a startup in Mumbai for sometime before jumping into the deep sea. If in a domain that interests you even better. There are lots of incubators. One in every University these days. Just mail startups there that have less than 10-15 people (smaller it is the more you learn) and ask for a temp job. Imho thats the best way for students who have no business background to get a sense of whats involved, test whether they have what it takes, how to deal with failure, make contacts etc etc.

Its not easy but I have seen Indian students make it (used to consult at an Incubator). And things are not as complicated as it used to be 10-15 years back.
