Has the lockdown exposed weaknesses in remote learning?

I read a lot of articles where teachers and parents both have complained that remote learning/teaching is not working. Also, remote learning has exposed digital divide even in developed countries.

Will remote learning be the future or will we see people preferring the old way of face-to-face in classroom teaching with simple classroom software tools just as an aid in teaching?

It looked like a lot of the covid induce remote learning was jerry rigging. I wouldn't say it exposed weaknesses as much as it showed a lack of interest prior to covid.

One major problem with with remote learning is it is at odds with existing institutions and their business models.

Another is how easily it could slide into automated learning, which would really upset those business models.

Then again, the stories about the dead professor and microsoft creating virtual versions of people could suggest an interesting future for learning.
