Who needs to have their media consumption pre-filtered?

I've been seeing this discussion going around in circles and I wanted to cut to the heart of it. Lots of people are saying that we need platform moderation to protect us from misinformation and chaos/racism etc.I'm curious who the target of that moderation is supposed to be. Is it us here on HN? If not us, who? Family, friends, relatives? Who are the people that need to have what they consume pre-sanitized?And who gets to decide who those people are?
