Is there some sort of system that ranks crimes by severity?
I'm not talking just "felony/misdemeanor/infraction," I'm talking about "crime A is 10 units of severity, and crime B is 15 units of severity"
Is there anything out there like that?
There is automatic software used in court rooms to determine sentencing in some places. It is a bit of a controversy because this was something only a Judge was empowered to do.
There are all kinds of sentencing guidelines for how many years in jail you might serve or how much a fine you might pay.
