Where do you buy custom cables?


For many of my home / side projects, a custom cable (custom length, custom pair of connectors) would help immensely. It seems like a simple problem: Select connector A and B, and the length (perhaps shielding and wire type), quantity, and purchase.

Unfortunately, for many cases, digikey, aliexpress, and other go-tos do not have the options I need.

Back in the early days of personal computing, the 'custom cable' was the norm.

When the 'ready made' cables started appearing, it was a relief to throw out our personal stocks of male/female connectors, the gender-changer connectors and at least a dozen different types and sizes of cable (co-axial, ribbon, multi-core, etc)

I get tired of having to roll up great lengths of bulky cable, just because the 'standard' lengths are too long.

Maybe I should regress to making up my own cables again. I need a more modern soldering-iron, anyway.
