How do large teams of electronics engineers coordinate their work?

Intel has around 100k electronics engineers. How do these engineers divide work among themselves? In software development we have the concept of modules and tasks. Each module can be assigned to a 1-10 developers. Same thing goes for tasks.

Does cpu design process have concepts similar to tasks and modules? What does a usual day of work look like for an electronics engineer that works at intel/amd?

Intel in particular is famous for having an unproductive culture.

10 years ago it was clear to me that Intel's side projects in areas such as graph analytics were shovel ware.

Today 10nm has failed, 7nm is nowhere in sight. Intel has jacked up pricing on the 14nm generation and got away with it until competitors finally pulled ahead.
