What would you do with a year off?

I've been working in software development for 12 years now, I'm making good money and my work is valued in the company, but nevertheless I feel burned out and have the feeling that I'm not developing myself anymore, work eats up all my attention etc.

I'm considering just quitting, taking a year "for myself" and then get back to work. What would you do with the year? Travel? Learn new stuff from a bucket list?

Took 6 months off to take care for a family member, did not do any looking for a job but walked into one for a lot more pay and no more crunch / pressure at work. Also feels more useful than anything i did before. Took it since i could combine it with caring for that family member.

I spend my days without job doing fun projects and making toy programs for myself improving the skills i wanted too instead of just another crud application that was pointless.

If you have nothing too do you do feel like you are wasting your days. especially if you have a hard deadline.
