What to Spend Training Budget On?

I have roughly $2500 to spend on 'professional development'.

As a software engineer I am struggling to find useful things to spend this on. My wife has an O'Reilly membership through university which I already use, so I don't really need books or access to books.

Is there some other thing (subscription, course, training, resources, online conference etc.) that's worth a sniff for someone in Data Engineering / Web Development? Looking more at the Big Data / Data pipeline type stuff.

Not interested in certifications or anything like that. Tried Coursera but it's not really my cup of tea.

Also based in Australia, so nothing too US-specific.

You could buy conference tickets, they are usually pretty pricy if you buy the "corporate" tier.

Books are always a good investment.

If you don't like coursera, try udemy/edX or maybe individual people who offer coaching/training in your preferred field.

If you need any equipment for data engineering (idk, a better video card?), you could go for that. Embedded engineers could buy a raspberry pi or a beaglebone for example.

Idk if that's common but I guess you could pay for cloud services that you used to learn/pet projects in your domain.
