Is it better to consult behind a business name?

I'm planning to start consulting and trying to work through the best marketing strategy.

What are the pros/cons to promoting my personal name/brand vs consulting as an individual behind a business name?

I'm leaning towards the business route as it offers something of a veil of professionality. It's also more flexible in that, if I decide later to bring others onboard, there's no need to later rebrand into a business.

However, it does add a level of obfuscation and I find it more difficult to speak directly to my experience and what I have to offer. I can state all the same things, but the content is buried deeper.

What do you think?

Yes. But mostly due to shielding assets from liability claims. Form an scorp or LLC. Speak with an accountant to understand the tax implications of either choice.

Marketing won’t change much initially. No harm in revealing that your company is still just you.

Good luck!
