What works well in virtual conferences?

Have you attended any virtual conferences? Professional or otherwise?

Tell me about the things that worked well. This could be anything, from presentation tips, to efficiently-managed breakout rooms, to finding ways to engage participants. How did it make a difference? Give me details!

I’m writing an article about how companies can run better online events, so thinking in terms of “good ideas worth stealing.” Leave out the disappointments; I want to focus on the positive practices.

If you’ve run a virtual event I’m interested in your opinions too, but keep in mind that this is framed as tips-and-tricks worth sharing.

https://thegeomob.com/ (https://twitter.com/geomob) is in the niche of geospatial tech (maps, routing, data, visualization). 4-5 presentations per evening, 6x per year. Audience is muted in Zoom during presentations. We're un-muting after a presentation so everybody can clap. It kind of works.
