Where do you find thought-provoking articles on the internet?

Recently I've been finding it difficult to find high-quality interesting articles and discussion on the internet.

Over the years reddit has become less and less thought-provoking and more of an echo chamber. Digg and Slashdot and Metafilter are mostly dead, and HN one of the rare platforms left for genuine, intelligent conversation.

Is there anything left of the old web, a platform where people discussed interesting topics with curiosity and friendliness?

I run an email newsletter[1] that aims to highlight the interesting content found on personal blogs. It's a single link every other day to something interesting, the kind of blog posts that you come across every once in a while that really make you think. The overwhelming feedback is that being able to read the kind of non-viscerally-targeted news and analyses that aren't easily found online is incredibly valuable.

I've been asked multiple times about starting a community with discussion, but don't currently have the bandwidth. If someone else would like to create one I will happily support it.

Not necessarily for discussion type, but Brain Pickings [1] has gotten me to read books I wouldn’t have read otherwise.

Ars Technica is my favorite for thoughtful discussion, although they've dumbed down a lot of their content lately. It seems that appealing to intelligence doesn't generate as much revenue as pandering to the masses.
