How do you find a reputable manufacturer

I am looking into creating a simple clothing product. I can find plenty of manufacturers on Alibaba, for example, but have no idea how to vet them. I'm hesitant to rely on ratings and reviews given how gamed those systems tend to be. Are there any tools or techniques you know of for finding a reliable manufacturer overseas?
