What should I consider when choosing a career as a CS grad?

I am approaching the end of my MS in Computer Engineering and in the last few years I have been exposed to a variety of different fields, ranging from data science to web and system programming. It’s now time to make a choice between all the various opportunities that this industry has to offer, and I’m struggling to take a decision. What are some long term considerations to make before committing to a specific career?

With a masters, your topic of research likely gets you an advantage with companies doing the same work. Especially for hardware jobs, your research and academic record might be your only way in. Software, especially web, is much more flexible and it's mostly a matter of building a portfolio and learning the whiteboard problems.
