Who's using realtime monitoring tools?

Am familiar with the use cases for logging & time series metrics for after-the-fact analysis.

Are there use-cases for realtime job / process monitoring? If yes, what are the go-to tools?

(I'm working on a project in this space and am worried I haven't adequately sniffed out the value prop).
